Open Question: does settleling with a creditor worse than just payng it off?

I have 1 collection account that I owe $365 to. If I were to call them and agree to settle for half, will that be worse for my credit versus just paying it off in full? Also this delinquent account has been on my credit for over 1 1/2. Can I ask them to remove this from my credit reports entirely if I agree to pay them in full?

Open Question: How do I get trust back?

About 4 months ago, I discovered my fiance had signed up for adult dating websites. When I confronted him, he completely denied that he did it. He thinks his computer and private info was compromised by a possible hacker. I found evidence that his credit card was used and the words in his online profile sounded just like him. I kept calling him a liar and many other names which I felt bad about...So, at first I tried to break it off with him which he responded by begging, pleading, crying etc. that he was innocent and he did not want to be without me and so on. We stayed together and kept trying to make amends. I do realize there are so many scumbags out on the internet who can hack into computers, but also at the same time I have been hurt before so I am not so trusting and believing. His words and actions otherwise show me that he does adore me and wants to have a future but for some reason I just cannot receive over this especially since I don't know for sure if he really did it or not. Other than this internet thing, he has not given me any other reason not to believe him. I am not sure how to receive the trust back that I used to feel for him. Help!

Open Question: Someone broke into my car and took my wallet, what else can i do?

in my wallet i had my drivers license, both of my credit cards and worst my SSN #. I live in a really good place so i never thought this could happen to me, plus i try to think good about people. So yesterday after i found out and i went to the DMV and got a new license, went to the SSN department and my new card should be coming in 2 weeks, I went to the credit place and got freud alert on my credit so no-one can open anything up or receive loans(wish it works), and canceled both credit cards and got new accounts. Oh and i called the police to file a report. Is there anything else i can do? I just feel so violated knowing there was someone in my car. Thanks everyone!

Open Question: Getting a loan to pay off my credit card debt?

What are my options. I had a spending problem these past couple months and right now I am at 4 grand almost maxing out my credit card. I had some fun bought some stuff I didn't need you know how it goes. Well, everything was way below control till my family who did me a favor couple months back telling me they'd take care of something for me automatically suprises me with a bill that they offered to take card of and they did most of it but yeah problem is if I knew this was going to happen I would of held off on my past purchases until I took care of that. Things were somewhat getting below control, somewhat it's bad enough I steer 75 miles (in total for the day) to work (Work in Illionis is difficult to arrive by believe me) so gas eats up some of my check. Now I been putting 600.00, and then another 500.00 on my checking account each month I pay like a thousand each month. Well, I had three checks this month and a check in which my job (which has been underpaying me by mistake and still is) gave me one big fat check. So yeah , I decide to go to six flags and since I been working every year to like my vacation that I earned. Big Mistake! Now another problem has arrive up, my vechile with me driving so much needs anew Timing Belt which is going to be 800.00...... So at this point, I would say I am going to suck this up and be nearing maxing out my card cause it will receive paid off, eventually. ANOTHER PROBLEM, my year of no interest is expiring. So my interest is going to be jacked up and if this happens I am going to be in the hole for sure more then what I am right now. Sadly, I could of had this taken care of and not be so much in a mess right now if I didn't do my vacation trip but this is also another reason why to never borrow from family. I'd go on to tell how my grandfather sold me a completely screwed up vechile in which needed two grand to be fixed but thats a whole other story..... WHAT DO I DO! How can I go about getting a loan. I can pay a thousand or at least 800 a month I am thinking. How much interest is ususally in a loan and is that my best option?

Open Question: Will I get hired as an Accountant if I graduate and get a CPA, but have bad credit from my chaotic past?

I have unpaid debt that I created during my alcoholic years but I am now clean and sober. I also have a nearly 10 year old class D felony DUI. I'm done with probation and haven't had any legal problems in years. But my bad debts have started showing up on my credit reports in recent years. If I receive a good accounting job I will work on paying off my $10,000 of bad debt as well as my student loans. I know its ironic that someone skilled at accounting has terrible credit, but its because I had a drinking problem that controlled me. Now I have control, I'm sober 3 years getting good grades and loving being an accounting major. Will anyone hire me as an accountant? I worry about it everyday.

Open Question: I'm well on my way to an BA in Accounting and I hope to be a CPA eventually.? But from my past...?

bad credit and legal problems. I'm an alcoholic in recovery and I adore being sober and I adore college and I adore accounting. In 2001 I got a class D felony DUI. About that time got myself into bad debt. In the years since then unpaid debt has been added to my credit history and my score is about 510. Will anybody hire me as an accountant (in a couple of years) with a nearly 10 year old driving felony and bad credit that is going unpaid for now. If I do receive a good job I will consolidate my $12,000 of unpaid bad debt with my student loans which have not defaulted. Then I will work on improving my credit and paying off my debts. But I need the good job first. I am good at accounting and I will pass the CPA but I'm worried that nobody will hire me.

Open Question: Need personal financial advice pls?

We have a home for sale in another state. We bought the home for 155k and owe 143k, the home is 6 years old. 8 months ago we moved to another state so I could start a new job and have been living with relatives. The home has been on the market for 8 months and we've only had 4 showings. We switched realtors at the 6 month mark. I recently lost my new job where I was making 60k a year, my wife is working and making 30k. I'm still waiting to find out what unemployment will be, I think possibly 1800 a month net. We have good credit, no tardy payments, no bill colletors calling. Aside from the mortgage we have about 35k in unsecured debt that we pay about 900 a month for and a car loan that is 200 a month for the next 5 years. The mortgage is 1250 a month and then we have lawn care, gas, and electric expenses in addition to the 500 a month we pay to stay where we are at now, plus car gas. If I can find another job making what I was or close to it then we'll be okay. I need to have an idea of what to do until I find that next job. Obviously bankruptcy and foreclosure have arrive to mind. Neither seem real appealing, my wife is a personal banker and is concerned on how bankruptcy could effect her career. We've done some online research but are overall pretty ignorant on the subjects of bankruptcy and foreclosure. Our 35k in basically credit card debt is going to take decades to pay off unless we can receive a loan, but without me working right now I don't even know if a loan is possible. 10 years of bad credit on the surface doesn't seem so bad when we are faced with 900 payments a month and currently facing a situation where it's likely we won't be able to cover every our expenses each month with what we have coming in. No home payment or debt payments right now is very appealing, but I don't even know if that is an option. I keep thinking that maybe we fall into the category of why bankruptcy exists and should do it. I don't know, I'm completly lost on what to do or who to ask, which is why I'm posting here. We really need some advice. Thanks in advance for your answers. My home is currently listed at $156,900. After realtor and selling fees that would give us a tiny profit of a few thousand dollars. We have some room to drop the price without bringing cash to close but not very much.

Open Question: If you have no bad credit for the last two years what does this mean?

What if you simply haven't paid your bills for two years? Is someone going to have a lower credit score who has 1,200 dollars worth of debt that is about 1 year from completely falling of of their credit report going to have a higher or the same score as someone who has $900 worth of debt that can probably remain on until the year 2013 ?

Open Question: How would you approach this?

I have been married for 7 long years. My husband is a deadbeat husband and dad. He spends most of his time playing in music bands that soak most of his spare time and money. I receive stuck paying the mortagaga, utilities, insurances, etc... and stress out wondering where the money will arrive from in order to pay for it every. He does have a job but he has a spending issue and doesn't really help with the major bills. I really want to kick him to the curb but the home is in my name, so I can't walk out. If I tell him to receive out, I cannot afford every the expenses on my possess without some sort of help. I wish I had the courage to confront him about his spending issues and bad credit card issues but I fear his mean temper. I have thought about putting our home up for sale and when/if it sells then tell him to "bug" off and go my possess seperate way with our 3 year old with me. Lord knows I would receive more from child support than I do from him right now. He has no care about expenses and bills and the responsibility of raising a family and to be honest, I have started looking for a "back door" if you know what I mean. I can't take the stress of it every anymore. With his bad temper I don't have the courage to confront him and tell him "hey this has to change or else" or "receive out of my home, I want a divorce". I can't afford marriage counceling and I can't cancel out his credit cards because my name is not on them. Any suggestions?

Open Question: Usury laws: do they NOT apply to subprime auto loans?

I am in the market (unfortunately) for a bad credit car loan. My score is horrendous thanks to a messy divorce (400!) I am aware that this score will qualify me for the state MAX interest rate. I was told that the interest rate here in NEW YORK will be 30-35%, but when I looked up New York's usury laws, they said the state max is 16%. I'm confused, can local car dealers charge me 30-35% interest for an car loan or not?? Thanks a bunch

Open Question: Should I *continue* to tip even if I tend to frequently visit that (favorite) restaurant?

There is this restaurant that I like very much. The prices are a little high, but I go there many times. I am tipping about 10% everytime. But I think it is getting expensive as I visit frequently. I live in Richmond, BC, Canada. Do you think it is "OK" to tip only occasionally, but not everytime? This means saying "No" to tipping in the credit machine and the waitress may feel bad about it. :-) BTW, this is a simple restaurant run by a family (husband and wife). They have another cook to help by in the kitchen. .. and no one else. They (the couples) themselves serve food and drinks. Grr.. as I made myself clear, there are no waitresses in this restaurant. It is run by a couple and they themselves serve the food. No one is getting "salary" here (except that cook they have employed to help).

Open Question: Question on buying a home and home loan ?

I am looking to buy my first home. I have good-excellent credit. I don't have a home picked out. Basically I was wondering if anyone went through the first time buyer experience recently and have any information for me. I am still working on how to find the best loan/rates for myself. So far I found most banks and credit unions have about the same rate. Do you think I should try a mortgage broker? I am hoping to avoid pmi, so I'm trying for a 80/15 loan, I have 5% down or a 5 year arm. I heard arm's are not the best to have but I'm hoping to only be at this starter home for 5 years and then receive something better. What do you think the best loan program is for someone with 5% down, what do you think is a reasonable interest rate? With the housing market as bad as it is, should I offer a certain percentage less on the asking price of the home? Any info on any of this would be helpful.

Open Question: Should keep my camaro or get the corolla?

Here is my situation.,, I am 18 and starting college in a week. I have a 1995 camaro that I got and the guy claimed that it had a fresh rebuilt motor in it and now the transmission is bad on it. Needless to say I only have a part time job and would have to take out a 1500 loan to fix this car. It has 205k on it with a fresh rebuilt motor in it. Today I went to a dealership (not a local lot) in my town and found a 2001 toyota corolla s with 83k on it. Its in flawless condition. I drove it and I really liked it so I took my camaro up there to have it appraised and they said that they would give take it as my down payment on the toyota. They are willing to give $500 for it. The toyota total price is $7995. My payments would be $160 a month and insurance would be $149 a month which is less than half of my months income. I have not other bills of any nice and I live with my parents. I can either receive he corolla and have a really good car for a long time and go into debt for four years or...I can take out a $1500 loan and rebuild the transmission in my camaro. What would you if you were me? I need some advice. Also I have a cosigner with excellent credit. The kbb on the toyota is 8600 suggested retail and I am going to a dealership so the prices will be higher. Also I will be driving 20 miles a day one way to school each day since I am living at home.

Open Question: Advice on letting someone take over my car payments?

I am thinking about letting someone take over my car payments because I just can't afford it anymore. My car loan is about $5,000 upside down so I can't sell it or trade it in to receive a lower payment. The person who is looking to take over payments cannot qualify through the bank because of bad credit. My plan is to require a deposit equal to one month's payment and then monthly payments will be mailed to me and I will pay the payments to the loan company. I will always know the payments are being paid. If one month I do not receive payment, then I can use the deposit money and try to receive my car back. My question is how do I go about getting the car back? Can I report it stolen? What are the negatives of this nice of situation?

Open Question: Scheduling Conflict...?

Mkay, so my high school's going to block scheduling this year (my senior year), and they've done quite a bad job with our schedules. I was supposed to take AP Biology and Honors Physics, but instead, they scheduled me for AP Bio and Latin I. I talked to my counselor about it, and we tried every possibility, but there's no way I can take Bio and Physics. What I can do is take either AP Biology OR regular level Physics. I'd really rather do Bio, but will colleges prefer to look a Physics course? I checked online at the schools I'm interested in, and none of them really specify. They every say that they require 2-3 credits in science courses. Plus, I'm going in undeclared and doubt that I'll be going into Engineering, Math, or Physics. If I do pick a science major, it'd most likely have more to do with Biology. What should I do? Should I call the schools? Who do I ask for when I call? I don't think they're Science/Math schools. I'm going for NYU, USC, Emory, GWU, UMD...schools like that.

Open Question: Does anyone know where I can get a PRIVATE STUDENT LOAN with no cosigner and not-so-good credit?!?

Hello everyone. I'm dying here. I need a student loan so badly or I won't be able to go to school this semester (NOT an option!!!) - but I'm a needy young person, and my family is worse off than I am, so there's no way someone is co-signing for me (it would only hurt the situation!). I already have FAFSA money and Federal Stafford Loans, but I still need more money for tuition (and books...)!!! Please, someone help me find out where I can receive a decent student loan in my condition. My credit is pretty bad, but I don't have credit card debt if that helps. I really need this and I feel like I've tapped out every other resource. Any help? To the first chick: If you don't know the answer to my question, then don't waste your precious studying time answering, especially if you're gonna be trashy and low class about it. You make yourself seem pretty stupid. I'm not white and wealthy, and daddy isn't paying for my school like yours is so don't tell me what school I need to go to. I'm probably in a much better school than you are. Found1 or whatever your name is. Girl, don't lie to kick it with me. First of every you don't know where I live, so saying that you "work at," the better school that I'm going to is clearly an attempt at being condescending, and no, it didn't work. If you were seriously into education and had gotten your possess student loans and paid them off, I'm sure you'd have better information for me than, "pick another school," especially coming from someone who claims they want ME to not drop out. I'm lucky that the school I'm going to took my black a-s-s and I'm not going to waste it 'cause some internet person thinks I need to go somewhere else. Like I said before, if you have nothing to contribute, cease wasting your time on me. I'm a big girl, and I'll do okay without YOUR so-called help.

Open Question: Has Ebay gotten out of control?

Ebay seems in the last few months to really have decided to annoy sellers. First, sellers can't leave negative feedback on buyers, no matter how bad the experience. Now, everything will have to be paid by Paypal or an internet credit card processor (meaning more fees for Ebay which owns Paypal) starting in October. Are there any other internet auction sites that have more favorable terms?

Open Question: Moving a credit card statement cycle?

Every month I pay off my CC, two months ago they charged the annual fee the night the statement cycle ended, had no clue-the notice informing me came after. Pushed me right over the limit...right after I paid it off and put enough in to cover the charges. They billed the charges 20- 30 days later, the night the statement cycle ended again. This happened twice before I decided it would make more sense to move the cycle to overlap with my payday, and with an in-home transfer have no worries ever again. When I contact the Bank that is when the nightmare started. I have two e-mails and two verbal statements that I was indeed able to move this cycle to any date I chose to. Upon further investigation I was informed this cycle had been moved a total of 4 times, to different dates by the bank, w/o my knowledge. Then I was transferred to a manager, over the phone, who very frankly told they not move the date because it would be bad for their business (several times). Hello?! I canceled the card, paid it off and requested a written confirmation of the closure,as well as the reason for closure. I got the letter confirming the closure yet the account still shows as open, until everything is paid off. At least that is what the letter says. Can the Bank seriously do this? Are we really this helpless against these giants? Seriously?

Open Question: Buying a car with bad credit?

Hi, I have about $15K in medical debts that have gone unpaid because I just don't have the money to pay them. I was in and out of the hospital for a few months without insurance. I don't know what to do anymore my car is really old and on it's way out. What do I do now? Should I try to receive credit cards and build credit, or will the collectors file suit? I was looking at craigslist and saw an ad with a 1800 number to call about forclosed homes it said no credit check no money down so i got my mom to call them and they said it was 1.95 for a 7 day trail so she gave them her credit card and i have read nothing but bad stuff about them on the internet. so i called my mom and told her to call them and cancel it, does anyone have a true experience with HR national? I also look that they have people they pay to arrive on yahoo answers and say good things about them so if you are one of those people dont' bother posting..... also what will they do with her credit card number? if she calls and cancels it before the 7 days is over will they still charge the 50$ monthly charge?

Open Question: How can I help my mother financially?

My mom is overworked, overstressed, and overly depressed. She has more concern for others than herself, and because of this has really dug herself into a huge financial hole, one she is having a very difficult time with. Before I start, I want you to know just who it is I'm looking to help. My mom is a hero. I don't know anyone with a kinder heart or more devoted to helping those in need. Whenever someone comes to her with a problem, she works to resolve it despite her possess well-being. She has even saved my cousin's life. My cousin had a very bad crack addiction, and my mom was the one that got her life back on track. But that's not the only way she saved her. After she had recovered, she discovered she was pregnant, and decided to keep the child. However, she began experiencing complications in the later stages of her pregnancy, I believe the case was called H.E.L.P synodrome or something like that. But when my mom noticed my cousin was in trouble, she was like a superhero, and she saved her life. Got her to the hospital, explained the situation, was there by her side until the very end. I tell you this story so you understand just the nice of person my mom is. She will do anything to help anyone, but despite this is struggling. Because she is so giving, she has fallen into debt. She works constantly and is currently negative nine-hundred dollars in her checking account. She breaks down every the time, weeping because she can't catch a break. Despite helping so many, it seems like so few are eager to help her, and this is partially because of her excessive pride. Her credit card debt is through the roof, the bills are piling up, but she refuses to give up despite the overwhelming burden weighing down on her shoulders. So, I want to do something about it. I want to do whatever I possibly can to help her out, but the problem is, I don't know if I have the means to do this. I'm nineteen years old, headed into school, and work as a grocery stocker, a position that rarely even earns me a hundred bucks a week. I help her as much as I can, give her what I can afford to pay for the bills that she is footing for me so I can live out a glad life, but its not enough. Knowing how upset she is makes me miserable, and I want nothing but for her her to be glad. So then, this is my question. Does anyone have any suggestions on how I can help her? I'm willing to do whatever I can, I'm looking into survey groups, online jobs when I'm not at work, planning on doing whatever I can while juggling school and work. Please, if you have any information for me, I would be eternally grateful. Thank you.

Open Question: Why do people blame God for everything?

The only time they even mention his name is when they use his name in vain. People don't even despise Hitler's name enough to use his name as a cuss word. Then people credit nature to 'mom nature' but when a natural disaster strikes, it is considered an 'Act of God'. The only time people think of God is when something bad happens. Humanity is running around murdering, raping, stealing, lying, causing wars. Why should God help us when we have the choice not to commit these heinous crimes yet we do anyway? And it is pretty obvious we have the free will to do these things. Why should God help us when we take his name as a cuss word and anything to do with him out of schools and public life in general and everything else? We don't deserve it. Look at us. Some might say 'Look at God in the OT, he is bad'. No he is not. You people look at one verse a freak out. God chose Isreal to be his people. They would be the people the savior of the world would arrive through, so they had to kept holy and purged of any bad. These Laws were from God, not mere men, and they were every given warning. God created life, and gave them his laws in full view. There is a HUGE difference in disobeying God and disobeying human Law's. People knew the consequnces. And people accuse God of intolerance? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Why would God put up with his people worshiping God's that do not exist? And Genocide? The people that were wiped out we like a city full of hitler's and bin ladens, doing nothing but bad, and if they were left there bad would have spread even further. These bad people were immoral and even practced human sacrifice. And God did not promote slavery. Slavery is what the people of Isreal were delivered from in Egypt. The Levitical Laws of slavery were desgined for the needy to be protected. Slaves were treated lwith dignity and were provided fro. It was more indentured servantoohd. There were ways to go free, and the contact to be become a servant was initiated by the servant himself. The OT is difficult for many to understand, but if you take the time to look into it and understand God is not a human, and that you can not subject God to the same standard you judge mere mortals that he made. every the diseases and tragedies that occur are every because of our possess short comings. atheist try to harrass Christians by saying "Why won't God heal amputess?". That is a cowardly way of of singling out one thing and attacking God, when it is humanity at fault. What makes amputees any different that cancer, AIDS, burn victims, victims of vehicle accidents, and so on. They are every victims of humanity's weakness and failures, WE have casued every these things. If we don't aknowledge God, why should he bother to aknowlegde us, expecially when every people do is credit him with our crimes, scoff at him and hate him. When someone dies of a sickness, people say God didn't answer a prayer. But when another lives, they say, God did answer a prayer. But how CAN we know what God did? People try to use this as a silly argument ot say God does not exist, but whether a prayer is allegedly answered or not, that does not mean God does not exist. He doesn't report to us. There are a lot of things in the life of a Christians that happen where it is clear that God answered us in prayer, when we asked with thanksgiving and a humble heart, and asked according to his will for our life, and there is times where he doesn't answer becasue he knows us better than we know oursleves. But a lot of the time no one knows what God does or why he does them. God makes it pretty clear he answers the prayers of the righteous. We know that God does not hear to sinners, but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does his will, God listens to him. -John 9:31 So they continue to accuse God of crimes and ignoring them, when you are doing the same to him. They acts as though they are good people, when no is is a good person, not even Christians. The only 'goodness' a Christian has is being covered by the blood of Christ. If God were to cease every single murder, crime, rape, accident, then he would have to change the minds of a lot people, and change things down to very tiny details. If people honoured him, respected him, and obeyed him things would be a lot different. If you only turn to God when things go wrong and then turn around and hate him and curse his name, why SHOULD he help you? and yes, I am ready for a bunch of sarcastic remarks, I could care less

Open Question: Should I pay a debt thats written off? ?

I had a capital one credit card and could not pay for a while and they wrote the debt off. Now a third party has purchased the debt and is attempting to collect. I was watching Suze Orman and she told a lady not to pay written off debt because it would not benefit her fico score.I didnt have the money when capital one wrote off the debt but now i do but i dont want to pay these scavengers especially if it wont help my FICO. Any suggestions? I was also considering offering a low ball settlement since they only paid pennies on the dollar for my bad debt. But i doubt they would sue me because its below $600.

Open Question: How hard is it to get into a police department with a short sale or foreclosure on your credit?

My husband and I are owners of a home with my parents that is currently trying to be short saled (in California). We have heard from several different people that if the home goes through a short sale or even worse a foreclosure that he will have no chance of getting into a police department. Does anyone have any experience with this? We have really good credit otherwise. He is looking at departments in California and Colorado.

Open Question: I want to convert a 2 story storage shed into a house, how do I go about doing this? ?

We recently purchased 5 acres of land for almost nothing. (Seriously, 2600 dollars...thats it!) It was such a good deal I couldnt pass it up, but I am in no way financially prepared to build a home yet. And my credit is so bad I cant receive a mortgage. I went to lowes and saw a 2 story storage shed,it is huge! I would like to convert this into a cottage/home for me and I need to know more specifically what I have to do to convert it and also the cost. (I can do a lot of stuff myself)Is it possible to receive it working the same way as a regular home? What about the foundation? Any and every help would be appreciated.
